A Sonic Screwdriver is not the only tool!

Let's be honest here, we would all love to have a single tool that opens anything, defends us, turn things off and on for us, and could be used as a GPS. This my friends is the brilliant type of tool the Doctor carries along with him. However the Sonic Screwdriver is no the only tool! Weapons and pens have also been seen to do the trick. [source] So, if you were a Time Lord what would you carry? How would you upgrade the little beauty for your purposes?

Let us go down this rabbit trail a while...

If Ms. Frizzle was indeed a Time Lord, her sonic tool may have been those gorgeous light up earrings of hers. Although something on the Magic School Bus may have also been sonic!

If Mary Poppins was a Time Lord her umbrella was surely the tool of choice!

The Doctor himself carried a cane at one time that he used as a sonic device!

I am not really sure yet what I might carry, but it would likely look like a cellphone or perhaps be attached to my necklace.

So, what about you?

What does your TARDIS look like?

May I make a confession? It is a little embarrassing, and once it's out I can't ever take it back... Here it goes! I've been dreaming Doctor Who for days. There, I said it. That's right, every night I have entertained Doctors, played the roll of a companion, or stared as River Song. I am not necessarily proud of my new obsession, but it hasn't cost me any money, injures, or extra time. I guess you can say  its a pretty safe one.

That being said, I will continue on my little Whovian series I've started. Today's project is finding that TARDIS. I have a theory that some of my very favorite fictional characters are actually Time Lords. I'll show you what I mean:

That is just a few!! Oh so many possibilities. Anyway, if you created your Time Lord name the other day, you will need some transportation! Here is what you need to consider! First, you are not restricted to things that are actually considered to be transportation. Take the Doctor, a police phone box. This is possible because basically all a TARDIS is, is a time machine is disguise!

Although you don't have to use transportation, you could very well choose to.Take Ms. Frizzle up there, how practical that she would have a bus for a TARDIS. Choosing a TARDIS is less about formula (like your name) and more about what speaks to you. My husband selected a very large, orient, grandfather clock for his. If you are as stumped by the idea as I am, here are a few good ideas:
  •  cars, trains, plane, buses
  • pieces of furniture with doors
  • large appliances
  • phone booths, photo booths
  • large boxes of all kinds
Still stumped? Consider this:
  • What is in your favorite room in the house?
  • What is your dream transportation?
  •  What was your Time Lord name? Pick something fitting.
  • Go against the flow, do something random. (I.E. Police Phone box!?)

How to Choose Your Time Lord Name

Source
If you haven't noticed already, my family and I are a little nerdy. However, our biggest fandom at the moment is the gloriously entertaining (and usually very good looking)- Doctor Who. This show often leads my husband and I into long conversations that serious look into each aspect of the show. Its sad, but its true.

With this fascination comes are secret desires to be either a Time Lord or companion ourselves. Today we will be exploring the realm of Time Lords on the blog. We will discuss how to find your "name". The Doctor actually chose that name. Although no one actually knows his given name, "Doctor" is only truly a nickname. Every person can find their own name in this sense. His was chosen to repay his past debts and his mission to save other worlds (especially Earth). So what are you?

*Disclaimer: My apologies if you have no idea what I am talking about... you should watch the show.*

To choose your name, consider these things:
  • Your Career
  • Your Passions
  • Your Current Titles (brother, sister, mother, leader, coach, etc)
After creating a list of all these things, see if there are any that seem to reoccur. Are there aspects of any of the three that are alike? If so, you are getting closer.

Once you have determined a realm, you must then choose a title. This is what it might look like. (These examples are my husband and I's)

Andrew's List
  • Career- Librarian (Desired), Banker (Current), Educator (future)
  • Passions- Books, superheros, learning, studying, archeology, music
  • Current Titles- Father, husband, son, Banker

After looking at all this the reoccurring theme was books and study. From this my husband looked at the nicknames he has been given in the past and concluded on the name:

The Professor

My List
  • Career- Educator
  • Passions- Children, writing, children, being creative , fashion
  • Current Titles- Wife, mother, daughter, sister, children's leader, writer
I instantly knew what the best name was for me after considering my list. I bet you can guess it!

The Mother

I really want to know what your name would be... so share below!

Keep and eye out, because I think I am on a roll. Next in this series....

The Doctor, Pirates, Oceans, and Butterflies

Basically, it was a busy bento day in my family. I themed each persons bento just for them! Mondays have come to be a day I enjoy. I plan all week and spend over an hour preparing the lunches on Sunday night.

It has been an awesome way to show my family I love them and that I am thinking of them always. Below I will share what I did!

Above is my husband's Doctor Who themed lunch. The famous lines from the Doctor's wife seemed most appropriate, "hello sweetie". You can also see the cranberry bowtie and the TARDIS I created! The marshmallow person was supposed to be one of the many aliens that the Doctor has encountered.

The ocean scene was for my youngest little dude. However, I found out later that neither boy would really eat the noodles because they were blue. Oh well! You live and learn.

My oldest son is totally into pirates right now. So, it was an easy next step to make his pirate themed. If you can't tell, the islands on both lunches is apple sauce.

Finally we have mine. I stuck to a floral idea for mine. I didn't really have any cool plans for mine like I did for the boys. I was very impressed with my pear/apple flower in the top and my pretty pinwheel sandwiches.

So, what did you do to make you Monday more special?

Queen Geek

I am a royal queen geek who likes to appear to outsiders as normal. If you know me well however, you know that when I like something- I go all out! I have a whole box a costumes, I've stayed up for hours watching Doctor Who, and I am totally at home in the midst of a Renaissance fair. What can I say? Deep down I am a child at heart.

For all my fellow Whovians, today was "The Fall of the Silence" remembrance day. How many marks did you have on your hand/arm? So far I have six... If you have never watched Doctor Who, I recommend it. The episode I am referring to is called "The Unlikely Astronaut". Check it out.

My Outfit

If I had remembered earlier in the day about Doctor Who fun, I may have dressed for the occasion. Sadly, I was unaware until this evening, so you get what I got.

I kind of just threw this together, so its nothing special. I am trying to rearrange and style my clothes differently. Im learning to mix and match and create awesome looks out of my crazy wardrobe. Practice makes perfect, and I need a lot of practice!

A Look Around

You may have notice some updates to my blog. Over the next few days I plan on making my blog more me. I hope you enjoy the changes and additions. I had no idea how much was out there! I am having a blast exploring other bloggers who share their work for free. My next big blog related goal is coming up with my own "grab it" button. I am in the process of determining what I want it to look like. Any ideas?

Preparing For Farewell

This week I have to pack for my two year old son. He is going out of town for a whole week with my mother, his grandma. I will miss him like crazy! I'm trying to think of some way to make him feel special, loved, and missed by me and daddy while he is away. I am just not sure what to do yet. I plan on sending his favorite bedtime books and hopefully Skyping him several times during his absence.  Beyond that, I need to dig into my creativity.

Looking Forward

Several things are about to come up. I am talking to my husband about starting the "Love Life" challenge next week. I have so much to share; I am almost bursting at the seems. I also have been enjoying my Gwynnie Bee so much, I intend to keep it at least another month. I can hardly imagine my life without it now. Crazy. In the very far future, the summer will bring lots of fun things to the blog! I will have a chance to focus on parenting, crafting, and all kinds of fun. One of the great things about working in a school. Please feel free to share anything you want to talk about OR ask any questions to get me thinking. Remember, my whole reason for this blog in the first place was self exploration.
