The Weird and Wonderful

Have you ever thought about how weird and wonderful each and every person is. Think about this quote from Dr. Seuss,

“We're all a little weird and life's a little weird. And when we find someone who's weirdness is compatible with ours, we join up with them and fall in mutual weirdness and call it love.”

Really, how true is that?!  There truly is no normal person. I was thinking about that the other day. I was trying to think about the little weird things about me. I mean, I know that most people know my major likes and dislikes, but what about the small stuff? Do you know all the small stuff about your spouse? Your kids? Your friends? The answer is likely no. So, here are a few of mine to get you thinking.

• I am a compulsive list maker. This little problems forces me to carry around paper and pen pretty much everywhere I go.
• I am always drawn to the color coral in fashion. Although this is not my favorite color, it has a way of getting to me like no other color can.
• I think sprinkles are awesome. Ice-cream, cookies, cake, and candy are all better with those little colored specs.
• I love to organize my jewelry box for fun.
• The smell of new crayons and books are fantastic.
• I enjoy the process and preparation of party planning probably more than the party itself.
• I have a small shopping addiction.
• I have a deep love for the country of Japan. This started at a very early age when I felt the calling to be a missionary.
• I am currently going through an aversion to peanut butter sandwiches. I don't know why.
• I love to read self help books!

Self Study Sunday: Life Time Line

There is nothing quite as revealing as looking at the events in your life that make you who you are. The truth is, no one person's time-line looks the same as another's. So this is our project today, create yours! If you need a little more information, you can check out my inspiration here. The dates are not as important as the events. Write down only the events that matter to you, not what "should" be on it.

Here is a look at mine. Notice how few dates are included.

• July 1987- Birth

• Moved to VA. I also associate this time with my Dad becoming a part of our lives. (My dad is actually my step father, but he has never been that to me.)
• Saved by Grace and called into missions. I have my parents' fabulous neighbor to thank for that.
• 7th grade- pulled out of public schools and started homeschooling.  This really OPENED a lot of doors for me. See below.
• 2 mission trips to the Philippines.
• Teen Summer camp- I decided to go to the tiny Christian university in Oklahoma, Southwestern Christian University.
• 2005- Mission trip to the place that has always had my heart, Japan.
• Chris- All you need to know is he was abusive and I was naive.
• Andrew- My true knight in shinning armor came along.
• 2007 Left my life and love in VA and headed to OK for school.
• Dustin- A good friend I met in school who followed my lead and moved back to VA after college.
• South Africa- I spent my last semester at school interning overseas.
• 2009- First real job as an Instructional assistant.
• Jan.  2010 Married my prince.
• Carlie- God's way of telling me I'm not alone and friends do exsist.
• Dec. 2010- Benjamin was born!
• Squash- I miscarried right before Ben's first birthday. It was early on, so the only name we had was "Squash".
• 2012- The move. We moved in with the in-laws.
• Nov. 2012- Henry was born!
• Blogging

So, this is my life in a nutshell. Yes, there is a lot more, but this is what made me!

30 Before 30: Fourteen

14. Buy an actual piece of art.

Not a print or duplicate, but a true straight from the studio work. I want to have the original, totally unique piece. I think it's because I feel like its a sign that you are truly an adult and you know the "worth" of the finer things. Don't get me wrong, I love my prints and Wal-mart art! However, I cant say that nothing I own is truly unique. During my years of traveling (which you can check out more- here), I did pick things up from street vendors and side shops.

I have a great love for the truly unique. I appreciate things with a little flair! When I shop its the measuring stick for jewelry, clothing, and decor. I also love things with an International inspiration. This likely comes from my traveling years and my passion for missions. I figure picking out a masterpiece should be a great experience for me.

One a Side Note:

I have been doing research.... "A dangerous past time...." "I know" (Beauty and the Beast) Its a pretty good bet we will be starting a journey into true self discovery soon. Topics and ideas include things like "women who inspire and intrigue me" and "a true life time line". So, this may be the topic of the month of October. We shall see!

Farewell June, Hello July

Tomorrow starts the month you all have been looking forward to! So much of me...I know you can barely contain yourselves! Kidding... kidding. However, you will get to know me so much better next month. I have so much to share. But that will have to wait until tomorrow! Now for some business.

Congratulation to Brittany from Facebook. She won the pair of dangle earrings. We had no entries via the blog, so one random "liker" was drawn and she was it!

As you may have noticed, I have spent the last few days creating blog buttons, joining networking groups, and starting my sister blog: Missionary Manda's Musings. On that blog you will be able to read interesting devotionals, see my travels as a missionary, and get to know the love of Jesus Christ. I do hope you will stop by and visit.
